Ensure that applications, especially those accessed by minors, comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by implementing age-based restrictions and consent workflows.
Key Requirements
Age Verification: Capture Date of Birth (DOB) during registration or authentication. If DOB is unavailable, enforce COPPA settings through alternative checks.
COPPA Settings:
COPPA Restriction: Blocks users under 13 from creating accounts.
COPPA Consent: Allows under-13 users only with verified parental consent. At least one setting must be enabled for every application.
Legal Review: If neither COPPA Restriction nor COPPA Consent is enabled, a formal legal review is mandatory before onboarding.
