The user identity lifecycle consists of six interconnected phases that ensure secure access, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  1. Provisioning
    • Purpose :Establish user identities and grant initial access.
    • Key activities:
      • Manage end-user identity provisioning at scale using secure workflows.
      • Enable self-service sign-up with extensible provisioning capabilities.
      • Ensure quick onboarding with appropriate access grants.
  2. Authentication
    • Purpose : Secure user login and protect against unauthorized access.
    • Key activities:
      • Implement configurable authentication flows.
      • Enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) using SMS, email OTPs, TOTP, or WebAuthn.
      • Apply risk-based policies for enhanced security.
  3. Authorization
    • Purpose : Define and control user permissions.
    • Key activities:
      • Determine identity access on portals.
      • Manage fine-grained roles and permissions.
      • Control group membership and enforce access policies.
  4. Self-service
    • Purpose : Empower users to manage their own identity-related tasks.
    • Key activities:
      • Profile and password management.
      • Submit access requests.
      • Utilize delegated access for flexibility.
  5. Governance
    • Purpose : Maintain compliance and monitor identity risks.
    • Key activities:
      • Conduct access recertification and periodic reviews.
      • Apply access review policies.
      • Assess and mitigate identity-related risks with reporting.
  6. Deprovisioning
    • Purpose : Securely remove access when users exit or change roles.
    • Key activities:
      • Revoke access and unauthorize identities from portals.
      • Decommission identities while managing data retention.
